Ajmal Kasab & The 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks

Ajmal Kasab, accused in the 26/11 terror strike in Mumbai, said he met Lashkar-e-Toiba agent David Coleman Headley but retracted from his statement on his involvement in the attack. Kasab stated in court that he met Headley without even being prompted, reports said.

In a shocking U-turn however, he said he was made to confess on his role in the attack under torture!! I mean, what was he expecting?? The Mumbai Police to ask him questions at a beach resort with dancing girls??

Ajmal Kasab finally denied all charges brought against him, Kasab said he was forcibly made to confess.

The prosecution has finally wound up its case before the court which had fixed December 18 to record the Kasab's statement.
A total of 610 witnesses were examined against Kasab and two Indian accused-- Faheem Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed.

It took almost 2 and a half years to convict Saddam Hussein - labeled the "Butcher of Baghdad" who massacred 1000's and displaced more. It's already been over a year now since 26/11, and I don't see any blood spilled from the "Butcher of Mumbai", who in an international scenario is nothing more than a rat in the land of dinosaurs.

Which makes me think, it'd be better in the future if terrorists are caught anywhere else except for India. Because his every breath insults the survivors and the relatives of the dead....

Tata Manza Review

I found this review on www.teambhp.com. Credit to the original author.

Don't discount this Tata product. Think about it, at Rs 4.8 lakh,
ex-showroom Delhi, you don't get any better space than this. And come
to think of it, the competition looks overpriced. Consider this, the
base version of both the petrol and diesel come with a 2-Din stereo
with all the necessary aux-in(s), power windows, steering, central
locking and decently finished interior trim. Besides, Tata isn't even
shoving the regular Indigo down your throat anymore - so what if you
have to live with the CS, Marina and XL!

Everything on the inside feels a generation up and is better built.
There's acres of space, the dashboard has a nice soft-touch material
and the Blue5 system works very well. The 5 in Blue5 means it can pair
up to 5 phones at a time. Of course it will only engage one at a time,
so don't get other ideas. Sound quality from the system is what one has
come to expect from OE systems these days with sorted out treble and
half decent bass. Our friends in the ICE section will be better able to
dissect the system for us.

What matters most in a Tata car is the seating and seating comfort. On
that front, the Tata continues the tradition well. You get lumbar
support of some sort for the driver's seat that doesn't really aid
much, but the seats are comfortable and large. The rear seat
exceptionally so with its deep recesses for the seat squab and a
comfortable position to place your feet on, unlike the predecessor
where the front seat's rails would impinge on space.

Now, I can give you a good lowdown on the diesel, since I never got the
opportunity to tell you about the petrol. The diesel is the same unit
as on the Linea. There are marginal changes to the ECU programming and
gear ratios, but the rest stays the same.

So to the most delicious part - it drives well. There's turbo lag, or
at least my test car was afflicted with it. At 50 kmph, I shifted into
5th, the needle just ticking over at 1100 rpm. So I stepped on it, and
for the next 20 seconds there was.... er, nothing! In the meanwhile,
India could have engaged with a war with one of its neighbours, have
planned out another green revolution, asked for three more commissions
to be setup - and then I was sitting at 1800 rpm, the turbo boost
kicked in and everything was as it should have been.

A small hiccup then. So why do I still insist on being a decent driving
car? Well, if you know your Lineas, you know that the Multijet with VGT
delivers most of its power at the upper reaches and when it does,
there's no looking back. I saw a genuine 170 kmph (and am not talking
odo here!) and it didn't feel strained at all. When was the last time
you saw 170 on a Tata, folks? The metres are pretty accurate too, with
the needle hovering at 175 kmph or so. Pretty impressive.

While the engine does lack low down grunt, correct use of gears
prevents a repeat of what happens at 50. But the reason why I did that
test was because most Indians go into top gear by 50-55kmph and even if
they overtake, say a slow moving truck, they won't bother downshifting.
Which is why, the nicely spaced ratios do the trick and one must learn
how to use it to prevent yawn inducing moments.

Meanwhile, the steering is large and uses good quality materials, but
is vague at some speeds and completely devoid of feel at others. Tata
Motors insists they've tried their best, but I think they need someone
who can tell them what a 'feelsome' steering is about. The gears engage
quite well, and notchiness is on a lower scale than before.

Ride is extremely well settled at all speeds, while handling is more
dependent on the good tyres rather than steering feel. Body control is
pretty good for a car that weighs nearly 1200 kilos and has a tall and
wide stance. And yes, these are the best brakes you will find on a
Tata, with the Aura+ that I tested braking without a fuss. The ABS
never felt intrusive or had a staccato feel to it.

I wish I could tell you more, but since the drive was kept to a fixed
loop with limited kilometres to drive, so there are things that are
better left for a much longer drive.

But for now, all I can tell you is, if you want something spacious,
with lots of kit and features and at a price that doesn't shake you off
your chair, then the Indigo Manza is the car for you. Add a more
reliable diesel engine and decent fuel efficiency, impeccable ride and
good braking ability to the equation and it seals the deal. For under
Rs 7 lakh, this car is great value and makes the Linea feel a bit
overpriced in the bargain. Tata really have yet another winner on their
hands, which they promise to not sully by launching a Manza CS or XL. A
Manza Marina perhaps, can't be ruled out.

The funny thing about "Click Here" & Adobe

While I was going through an article I came across something pretty interesting and downright funny actually.

Anybody who does or has done SEO work in the past will know the importance of backlinks and their keyword anchortext. I was always of the opinion that it did matter, but not to a really large extent. The article mentioned above really opened some eyes - MINE.

Lots and lots of pages that have content which require .pdf support, will also give you a link to download Adobe Acrobat Reader for Free... The line will usually look like this: Click Here to Download Adobe reader for Free!

The funny thing is that, these pages (who put this link on their websites) are unconsciously optimizing the Adobe download page for keywords they are not interested in.

But now, if you search for "click here" in Google, The first result that pops up is the Adobe download page.
The same observation for the keyword "here" - Again, Adobe's #1. And all this, even though "click here" & "here" are not mentioned in the Page Title and Meta tags....

Kinda makes you think about how important content is right?? Makes no sense to me right now. All I want are backlinks!!

Firmware Upgraded for my N79!!

I had read so many places about firmware upgrades going wrong - rendering people's phones like paperweights and all that on the Nokia Support Discussions Page. I always thought twice about upgrading my phone's firmware since I bought it in October.

But when I found that my N79's version was V 11.049 and Nokia had already come out with Version 20.175 & Version 30.019 (some 1-2 months ago), I thought it was high time.

I even contacted my Phone supplier about upgrading it for me thinking that would be the safest option (primarily so that I could pass blame if something went wrong) - BUT even he told me that they take no responsibility for any crashes. So why the hell should I pay him 300 bucks if I'm able to crash my phone myself?

So I just went with it.

Nokia seriously makes it very easy to upgrade your firmware. Doing it OTA (Over The Air) via GPRS is just too stupid. Takes ages to download around 8Mb. I used my Office's WLAN (thank god for the N79's Wi-Fi) and it was over in about 5 mins.
No Hard Resets, No Problems, Good Update speed, Phone started normally - I'm fine even though the firmware was double-upgraded (v11.049 - v20.175 - v30.019)

The only thing I've noticed that the RAM being used during standby is a tad-bit more. (I use Handy Taskman) - Maybe a glitch, but I dunno yet. Still gong through the reduced list of Bugs for the firmware.

At least the Flipsilent App I had mentioned in my Signing Apps post comes as part of the inbuilt apps for the N79 - Cool!!

So far no issues, I hope Nokia lets me keep it that way

Filthy Dukes - This Rhythm

What a crazy video...

Loved this track on Fabriclive 48 too!! Cheers Pav!

Signing Apps for Nokia Symbian Smart Phones - The Search Ends Here!!

Regarding my last post, where I said the only thing I did not like with my New N79 Symbian (FP2) Handset was that I could not find signed applications (.sis & .sisx installer files) to readily install on my phone.

And I'm talking about really cool accelerometer apps like FlipSilent, Keynetik's Rock'n'Scroll & Managers like Smart Settings. Tried installing all of them but got certificate errors on each - every time.

I had done a lot of research on signing apps using my IMEI number, but everyone suggested "SymbianSigned.com" - the process here is easy, but not consistent, cluttered and downright irritating. Users with normal id's cannot login in, and the process is really very technical - which includes retrieval & creation of Developer Certificates and keys (which took ages on the website)

ALL UNTIL LAST NIGHT !!

This is when I suddenly found a page called cer.opda.cn - a Chinese site helping little ignorant fools like me easily sign apps for Symbian smartphones

Really cool, cause now I really trip on the Rock'n'Scroll (see video) thingie & the Flipsilent's really very helpful too

Nokia N79 - A Fantastic Buy

This is probably the best thing I've bought in recent times (besides Choi's Gladdies) ;-)

After countless hours (probably minutes) of research out at gsmarena & fonearena I decided to go for this handset.

There was a lot of skepticism over the size of the screen & especially the new S60 3rd Gen FP2 upgrade for the newer Nokia Symbian models like the N79, N78, N96 - kinda screwed up all the accelerometer apps for the compatible Nokia phones. Finding a signed app for the n79 is a real pain in the neck.....

This is a tiny attempt to post my own review about the n79 having used it for almost a month ----- I'll rate it according to the following parameters :

Form & Display:
No loose-ends here, the phone practically feels like one solid piece. Dropped it once already :D, nothing came loose, nothing rattled later, I was damn happy. But I'd rather not drop it anymore. At the shop, it felt so slim for the first time (I had an N73 for around 2 yrs, so this was a relief being 4mm thinner) and it also is so incredibly light

Keypad:
I was so close to buying the the N82, luck saved because 2 days before i planned to buy it, the dealer told me that production had stopped for the N82. Thats when I started to heavily consider the N79. A friend told me that the N82 was really kickass except for one major flaw - The Keypad. Since I have these giganto fingers, where I can barely type on a keyboard, the N79 feels comfortable and smooth. Although I'd have to admit - I do have a few problems sometimes with my press accuracy regarding the Call, Menu and the "C" buttons. I end up pressing something else. But thats fine cause Hyundai's not gonna build a bigger car for me either!! Sometimes people are just too big for the things they want to use.

Camera:
Excellent quality!! For a 5Mp, I compared it to snaps taken with a 5Mp Samsung touch and the SE K850, and I found the Nokia winning every time. Night shots with the 'night mode' are fantastic. Video shooting and viewing is very smooth because the recording rate is 30fps as compared to the 15fps that older Nokia's were recording at. Also a nifty addition is the ability to activate the flash during video shooting - very helpful indeed.

GPS:
As accurate as I would want it to be. All GPS manuals tell you not to use GPS as a precision guidance system as the US govt (on purpose) reduces the accuracy of their satellite's positioning for civilian use.... But I've found on more than one occasion that GMaps finds me exactly where I'm standing (as long as you're in the open and connected to 4 or more sat's), moreover, setting up a route and following it kinda reaffirmed my faith in GPS's accuarcy and functionality

Mobile web browsing:
I used to swear by Opera Mini when I had the N73, cause lets face it, the Pre-FP1 in-built browser really sucked. But the new one is marvelous, coupled with the FP2 transition effects and the capability to open multiple pages (like tabbing in FFox) is really cool and makes it easier to navigate and browse. I can swear the speed's been upped although I'm still catching Edge (Maybe I dont have enough data to substantiate this claim) but whatever, this is MY review

Messaging and Email:
The messaging interface is classic - nice and smooth, text is adjustable, even the smallest font is readable - I dont have specs, so that's never been a problem. For e-mail - since I only have Google accounts, I still continue to use the "Gmail" program. I think thats the easiest, rather than signing in every time I get a new mail.

Media Music and Video:
Phone Speakers are freakishly loud, I have to keep my ringtone level at around 2-3 to prevent disturbing people at work or waking my brother up at night. While talking, my call volume is very low (around 2-3) as well. I never have any problems hearing the caller, and no callers ever complained about hearing me either. The in-built FM transmitter is just too bloody cool. Transmit all your music onto any player that has an FM receiver (excellent to use in cars) tune in the same unused frequency and play on.... No problems, just that the volume on the receiver needs to be increased a little more than normal.

TV Out:
Unfortunately this is one piece of hardware that I didn't receive with the phone pack. I did happen to use a friend's 5800's TV out to see how the phone reacts. General observation showed that the phone did work slower and took time to recover from the "beating". But the transition effects remained smooth and kinda looked really cool on a big screen. Videos & Pics are not distorted, but as I said earlier - continuous use slowed the poor thing down

Accelerometer – auto-rotate:
Sensitive and with the transition effects looks fantastic. Although it does have a mind of its own sometimes. I can learn to live with it. One things really annoying though - Screen turns even when I'm on a call.

OS, Applications , Performance and Memory:
The OS itself is very fast, no RAM issues. Device memory is sufficient (Phone comes with a 4Gb memcard) so you dont have to load up the device for any crap.
I realised one thing that is very irritating - very few accelerometer applications (2 to be exact) originally built for the FP1 phones have been ported to FP2 compatibility! That leaves me with practically nothing to choose from. Everything is compatible with the the N95 but not the N96 & the N79. However, apps-wise, there are still millions to choose from so I'm not complaining (yet)

Battery:
Good battery life. I seem to be charging the phone every 3.5 days. Note that this is after keeping the wi-fi, Music player and bluetooth on practically the whole day. The phone's still pretty new ya, so I can never find myself putting it down for more than 10 minutes. The package charger is extremely fast, and the charge seems to be good regardless of time taken to charge

Conclusion:
This phone combines the Multimedia features of all the Nseries – Top notch 5Mp Camera, music player and some of the features of the Eseries like mailing, sophisticated web browsing, Wireless LAN & A-GPS. This phone is feature packed and has something in store for every kind of mobile user be it a student, professional, & Geek. Its light, sleek & fully loaded - I dont think I'll have to change my phone for another 2 yrs now. All in all - I'd give the N79 a good 9 (out of 10) Stars

Digg.com as a Marketing Tool??

Never thought Digg.com could be used as a Marketing tool.

But online marketers around the world would swear I was an Infidel if I said so....

Frankly, I had tried it out recently on digg.com - for my Gaikwad post. Luckily I had enabled Google analytics to track traffic on this page (not that I get much, but its not bad either)

I noticed that after I posted a new message on digg on the 29th, I got no diggs, but I received around 1,300 visitors from digg.com in the last 2 days!!

They came to digg, saw my message post, clicked on my link for kicks. The interesting part is that it served my purpose - I got visitors.....

As a marketing tool, I guess an advertiser would have to firstly have some content that was on the lines of being something viral. Serious stuff really doesn't work, unless it's somehow related to an "interesting" current event - Like an article that asks you to digg if you voted for Obama (got some 40K diggs), but "Girlfriend's angry emails to her vacationing boyfriend" also got some 20K diggs.....

Go figure!!

Google & Bing - Splitscreen Style!!

Came across this nifty site today.....

Not really applicable to Indians really because you cant select google.co.in as default.
And anyway - who uses Bing.com?? LOL

Right now I think they only offer the euro search pages. NO INDIA??
Just thought it was pretty cool... looks like a proto anyway

Girls Beware (in Canada, at least)

This has to be the ultimate example of how aggressive a potential "date" can possibly be.

This guy gets a girl's number in a bar or something, and leaves her a message.
With no reply a few days later, this guy gets really pissed.

Actually, listening to it is way more fun.

Download Torrents in Torrents

I think one of the most useful formats ever exchanged on the Internet (of course, besides all .exe's) is the '.torrent' file. I mean damn!, you can get absolutely anything you want.

Downloadable files can range from anything between Music artist's albums, installers, movies (in all possible formats), e-books, full-version video games (PC, PS, PSP, X-BOX).

It truly represents the democratic nature of the online community - For the Users, By the Users. No agencies are involved, no paperwork, no hassles and best of all - FREE!! All you'll ever need is an internet connection.
A Programmer Bram Cohen had designed the protocol in April 2001 and released its first implementation on July 2, 2001.
It is now maintained by Cohen's company BitTorrent Inc. There are numerous BitTorrent Clients available for a variety of platforms.

According to Isohunt - one of the major bittorrent sources, the total amount of shared content was more than than 1.7 Petabytes in 2008. (1 petabyte is = 1,000 Terabytes = 1,000,000 Gigabytes = 1,000,000,000 Megabytes)
A whole lot of ppl are after free stuff methinks,

Gladly, I'm one of them because right now I'm getting The Underworld trilogy, Transformers 2, Angels & Demons & GI Joe at the same time!!! Hooray for a Free World
;)

Zynga Poker - Buddy Hell!!

Zynga Poker
I've been a Zynga Poker addict for 2 months now, and damn proud about it.
I play everyday on facebook, and there was a time when I looked forward to a new day so I could sit at a table, hurl abuses at random Lebanese, Turkish & Alhug-mug guys and take all their money.
I love it for one main reason - I hate gambling with real money. This allows me to do anything I want with no consequences to bother about.

But of late, I have seriously started to believe that the entire thing is kinda rigged man. For one thing, I only seem to be getting cards that are only between 2 and 9. I have not seen a face card for weeks now.
You also see these ghost players joining a table, going all-in, getting a 3-of-a-kind on the turn & the river card and disappearing altogether....
I was ok with it before - when I had nearly 5 million chips and lost around 10K on a hand - but certain games I have lost more due to tables 'hanging' and these "ghost players".

I did a little research and found that actually there are poker bots available that automatically calculate odds and bet according to loads of possible plays from their databases.

I also found that it was too late for me to use one of these things because Zynga had already made changes and enhanced their poker interface security.

DAMN, just when I found an easier way to win (fake) money....

I'm still playing it now. In all fairness, I did admit to be an addict in the beginning.

GoGirl GO!!

This has to be one of the funniest contraptions that I have ever come across (besides of course - The Fleshlight - another really hilarious product for the really, really lonely guy)

The tagline states - "Don't take life sitting down"

The manufacturers define it as a FUD (Female Urination Device), whatever the fuck that is....
I'll agree its practical to an extent, but WTF??? Whats next, a trouser balloon for guys to pee in so that they don't have to use a crowded loo? Are women supposed to wear these things when they leave home, or carry it with them? If they carry it - wouldn't they need a loo to wear it or put it on?

A short description - This is too funny!!
"Only GoGirl is made with flexible, medical grade silicone. Dispose of it after use. Or clean and reuse as you like. (Urine is sterile, but the product can come into contact with contaminates during use, so take precautions when cleaning.) Our patented splash guard eliminates messing and spilling. Once you practice a time or two, using a GoGirl is going to feel like second nature. You won’t be like a man. You’ll just pee like one."

I see 3 funny things with this :
1st - Dispose or reuse pee stained silicon?? Damn these guys are disgusting
2nd - SPLASH GUARD!!! In case it turns into a wave pool in there...
3rd - You'll pee like a man?? Why would any self-respecting woman wanna pee like a man for $7.00??

Get the full lowdown here at the GoGirl Website

Just usage of excess silicon methinks, women seem to be consuming more of it than Intel (read Pamela & Jessica Simpson)

Bluetooth for the Iphone

Came accross this app for the iPhone recently from a friend, allows all iPhones to send and receive files (images, videos & audio files) via Bluetooth transfer. Of course, nothing can be read without syncing with iTunes, but at least it will be there on the damn phone's HDD.

Kinda thrashed the whole uniqueness of the 3G-s right.
A friend rightly put it that it's pointless to spend another 20K just for GPS and bluetooth transfer, which incidentally, the 3G-s can send and receive files only from another 3G-s.

Apple really plays their OS's close to their chest, why bother - cause for every security system, there is always a burglar who's more advanced and smarter.

Anyway, this is what I read about the new App
iBluetooth - iPhone app

Dump the Blog Again!!

It's been quite a little while since my last post, however - this shall be my second and last attempt

Lets See how long this blog lasts now.
